I like to have small talk during my appointments, how does it handle that?

Small talk is automatically completely filtered out. Even if the client brings up other animals that are not the current patient, Astro Scribe will recognise that and not add that information to the note. Astro Scribe does much more than just transcribe exactly what you said and put it into your notes - it intelligently listens and writes your notes properly, in a customizable style!

I don’t use clinical language during typical appointments - will this affect my notes?

No! This is exactly what Astro Scribe excels at! Just explain things normally to your clients as you usually do, and your notes will be perfectly clinically appropriate.

Can I have multiple vets use the same workstation with Astro Scribe installed?

Yes! There’s no login required. Astro Scribe will just be open on your computer, always ready to go!

What type of microphone should I get?

You should check if your computer happens to have a built-in microphone before buying one! Check my device for a microphone. We recommend getting a good quality ‘condenser, omnidirectional’ microphone for the best results. Detailed recommendations are on the download page.

What VPMS/PIMS software does it work with?

Astro Scribe works with all Veterinary Practice Management Systems / Practice Information Management Systems, including:

ezyVet, RxWorks, Open VPMS, Vision VPMS and more. Because of the unique design of ezyVet, we have a special mode for that which you can watch in our demo video here

What if I lose access to an old computer with Astro Scribe installed - will I be able to re-download Astro Scribe onto the replacement device?

Absolutely! Even if you installed Astro Scribe onto 10 of 10 devices allotted to your plan, for example, just email support@astro-scribe.com and we can add an extra download for you. Then just install Astro Scribe on the new device in exactly the same way as usual.

Does Astro Scribe work on smartphones?

We do not support smartphones or tablets - however we now have a MacOS version as well! We found that this drained the phone battery too quickly and caused overheating, and looked a little unprofessional during appointments.

The app is designed to work on windows 7+ (64-bit) AND MacOS devices from version 10.15.7 onwards.

Astro Scribe is literally industry leading - we are the first and only app of its kind to legitimately protect your privacy by never sharing any identifiable information with third parties.

Since this app is designed to record you and your clients, you might (rightfully!) be wondering about privacy.

Recordings never leave your device and are never saved, even temporarily.

The transcript is completely anonymised before leaving your device for processing. This means all names are removed. Another thing only Astro Scribe provides.

We NEVER collect, store or share sensitive information.

We’re really proud of this - something no other app offers: You can always right-click on the in-app settings button to manually check the logs and view exactly what information is leaving your device!

All information regarding your subscription is encrypted at rest as per industry standard.

In-clinic (LAN) note and template sharing received a massive update this week. Speed was greatly improved (in some cases this update actually fixed note sharing altogether - we are so sorry for the wait and thank you for your patience!), encryption was improved to protect against local network vulnerabilities, and the new highly anticipated feature to instantly change which template is being used across the entire clinic with just one button was added! Simply click to “use” a template (within the settings) and a popup message will ask you if you’d like every computer to use that template. Not to mention, when a template is updated on any device, every device will receive that update.

The settings menu was re-worked to make it easier to access the high-traffic sections - notably, changing the microphone is now available from the first section of the settings, as well as custom templates!

Another requested feature was implemented: being able to copy with any template by simply hovering over the note! Now, there’s no need to go into the settings to copy a particular note with a different template.

This is a nice quality of life change - if you’re getting overwhelmed by the number of notes showing up on your device from other computers - just hover over the settings menu, and click “Show/Hide notes from other devices”!

Don’t like the order the notes appear in? Hover over the settings and click “Reverse order of notes”!

Tired of microphone warnings (we can be a little too careful sometimes..) when you know your mic is good to go? Hover over the settings button!

The settings menu is often having small extra options added to it, so don’t be afraid to [peruse it, hover over it, right click it, you name it!] every now and then!

Lastly, we’ve heard feedback from multiple clinics - in some cases, potential treatment options were listed incorrectly as actual pursued treatments, and overall client communications were leaving something to be desired. There was also a tendency to misidentify all potential (future) conditions as currently being experienced. We’ve updated note-generation to address these issues, as well as encouraging more generic description of medications instead of specific recommendations. Going forward, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us over email at support@astro-scribe.com to let us know if there are any further issues with notes like this (or anything else for that matter)! We are immensely grateful for this feedback - please keep it coming! There is nothing too small!!!

16/10/2025: v4.7 -> v5.85

We added a few extra specific sections to the initial consults (vomiting, stools, urination, drinking, current hydration status), for just a little bit more ‘granularity’ for template customization.

Then added some additional appointment types: admissions, discharges, vaccinations, TPLO, ortho surgery, and a phone conversation button (remember to let your clients know you’re using a dictation software called Astro Scribe!) for easy capture of client communications!

A special ezyVet mode was beta tested and is now in full release in the app! This one is really cool for those vets that love their notes to be as granular as possible but without all the hassle!

Notifications to help remind vets still getting used to the app were added. Now there are small popups (which are easy to turn off if that’s not your cup of tea!) that appear when you’ve been away from your device for a bit to remind you to start/stop appointments. Just wiggle your mouse and follow the instructions - it’s now easier than ever to get into the flow of using Astro Scribe!

30/10/2025 v5.86 release

MacOS support is here at long last! Even if your clinic uses a mixture of MacOS and Windows devices, everything will work just fine. MacOS 10.15.7 (Catalina) onwards is supported.

This update also:

  • Improved in-app communication about notes generation

  • Added an optional feature to automatically stop recording for you after a duration of your choosing

  • Added a reminder to stop recording if you have been away from your device for a while.
